What is a Village Design Statement?
A Village Design Statement (VDS) is a document which describes the character of a village and provides broad design guidelines
which address the qualities which local residents and the local community consider are worthy of retention or improvement.
The VDS is a good way to help all those involved with planning the future development of a village to understand the villages'
distinctive character and also what makes it such a special place in which to live
How is it proposed to produce the Village Design Statement?
It is proposed that the preparation of the VDS will take place as part of extensive consultation with the local community
in partnership with the Planning Authority. The process adopted for the preparation of the VDS will involve the following
key stages:
1. Information gathering
This will involve a series of site visits and desktop analysis.
2. Consultation
This will consist of initial community workshops, scheduled for the 22nd May at 7pm in Kennedys Lounge, with further workshops
during the preparation of the VDS.
3. Preparation of the draft document
The Draft VDS will be prepared having regard to the above and be available for public comment and submissions. It is envisaged
that a further workshop will take place during the public consultation period after the publication of the Draft VDS.
4. Publication of final Village Design Statement.
It is hoped that the VDS, when finalised, will contribute to the proper planning and sustainable development of the village.
That it will be based on a consensus between the local community and the Planning Authority and that it will incorporate
design principles and guidelines for any future development within the village.
